In late 2017 I was the successful recipient of a CAN Catalyst professional development grant to undertake a mentorship in digital film-making. The purpose of the project was to learn digital-media videography skills so as to be able to create short professional quality digital films on community art projects that I am involved in.
The project was undertaken through a series of one-on-one skills development sessions with local digital film-maker Linda Blagg, and the application of these skills in a number of practical recording sessions with Mixed Palette Inc. – a disability-led arts group based in Rockingham, WA. This included a number of one-on-one interviews with key personnel.
The result is a 15-minute documentary on Mixed Palette Inc, ‘Art and Inclusion: Our Artists Are Our Greatest Strength,’ which continues to be utilised by the group for marketing, promotional and advocacy purposes.
In 2022 the documentary was entered into the ‘documentary’ category of the Rockingham-based ‘Rock the Boat Film Festival whereby it was a Finalist as well as Award Winner – see ‘Key Outcomes’ below for details.
