In early 2019 I was approached by artist Tony Stanisheff to curate his fourth solo exhibition at his preferred venue, the YMCA HQ Gallery, Leederville. Tony has an intellectual disability and his family needed professional art support to make his vision a reality.
The exhibition featured 44 of Tony’s striking chalk pastel works; mostly portraits of famous people, animals as well as landscapes using bold black lines and blocks of vivid colour.
My Key Roles
- Correspondence with and between artist, artist’s family and gallery
- Mentoring Tony’s sister with many aspects of the exhibition, including photographic documentation of works, recording of artwork details etc
- Writing and design of exhibition catalogue and didactics
- Coordination of opening night, including key-note speaker
- Promotion of exhibition through various organisations and media
- Curation of the exhibition, including installation and de-installation
- Management of artwork sales
Key Outcomes
- Professional solo art exhibition
- Successful opening night
- Smooth, efficient process
- Tony was very happy with the success of his exhibition and at the end of the open period was already planning for his next solo show
